Adam, National Herbarium of Costa Rica
Evil father takes blackmail photo of son doing what he had always sworn he would never do: look at herbarium specimens. In actual fact, whatever Adam thinks of the whole thing, he has been extraordinarily helpful in this project to learn about Hesperomeles, a South and Central American genus that appears to be sister to Crataegus. The fieldwork is fun, of course, but in organizing the permits needed to export the collections we've made he's been able to show off how effective his knowledge of Spanish has become, and how well he can work with the people in the government agencies responsible for biodiversity in Costa Rica.
