Our walks

No writing about our life at EK would be complete without mentioning the surroundings. We have several paths along the Highland Creek and have been walking and enjoying the flora and fauna in the woods through which the paths run. One of the paths, the Ma Moosh Ka Win trail, goes to the Scarborough campus of the University of Toronto. Last spring photographs of local plants and animals were posted along the trail. Now walking along the trail involves a lot of stops as Tim likes to read every description and check it for accuracy. We found that a White Pine’s description was posted with a picture of a Cedar. Well, this meant that Tim had to stop in his tracks and shoot off an email to the authorities. There is nothing like an indignant Botanist armed with a cellphone. But a speedy correction? Forget that. He got a reply (not from a robot or an autoreply, but from a human) before we reached home. Months later, the correction has not been made.

The Ma Moosh Ka Win Trail is a part of a longer path that runs, on the south side, to Lake Ontario. We have gone to the lake a few times. One branch of the path runs on the west side, so all in all, there are several options for walkers.

Wish you all a very happy new year.
